What is PEMF Therapy?

PEMF Therapy uses pulsed electromagnetic fields to interact with the body in a gentle, non-invasive way. These pulses are used to influence cellular signalling and the electrical environment around tissues.

At Kubo Wellness, PEMF is offered in two formats, allowing for either more targeted support or a broader full-body treatment. Sessions are delivered in a calm, comfortable setting and shaped around the type of support needed.

How PEMF Therapy works

PEMF Therapy works by delivering gentle electromagnetic pulses that influence membrane potential, ion activity and cellular responses in ways that can support regulation, circulation, repair and function.

Pulses move through the body naturally

PEMF Therapy delivers gentle electromagnetic pulses through the body without strain, allowing it to be used either more locally or as a broader full-body session.

Cells and tissues respond to the signal

These pulses influence cellular activity and the electrical environment around tissues, helping regulate signalling, repair, circulation and wider physiological function.

The body is better able to reset and recover

With those systems better supported, PEMF can help the body reset more effectively, recover more efficiently, and return toward better balance, comfort and function.

Who PEMF Therapy is best suited to

PEMF Therapy can support a wide range of goals, but it is especially well suited to people looking for more targeted musculoskeletal support, structural recovery, movement support or nervous system regulation.

Localised or persistent pain concerns

Often used where pain is focused in specific areas or forms part of a longer-term systemic pattern, including low back pain and chronic pain.

Bone, joint or structural concerns

It can be especially relevant where joint function, bone health, stiffness or longer-term musculoskeletal support are part of the picture.

Limited movement or slower recovery

PEMF can be useful where overload, injury, discomfort or slower recovery are affecting movement quality and physical function.

Ongoing stress or physical fatigue

Some people also explore PEMF more broadly when regulation, sleep, resilience and recovery all need support together.

Session formats

At Kubo Wellness, PEMF Therapy is offered in two formats depending on the type of support required. One is more targeted and time-efficient, while the other is designed as a broader full-body session with a more systemic effect.

20-minute targeted session

This shorter format is designed for more localised support, particularly where joints, muscles, bones or more defined areas of discomfort are the focus. It is a strong option for targeted recovery, structural stress and musculoskeletal care.

  • More localised support
  • Shorter, focused session
  • Musculoskeletal emphasis

40-minute full-body session

This longer format provides broader full-body PEMF, with flexibility to include more localised support or to deepen the wider systemic effect. It is well suited to people seeking a deeper reset, wider regulation, or a more complete session.

  • Full-body support
  • Broader systemic effect
  • Deeper reset session

Can PEMF Therapy be combined with other therapies?

Yes. PEMF Therapy can be used on its own or combined with other therapies depending on the goal. Some people use it as a focused standalone treatment, while others include it within a broader recovery or wellbeing strategy.

Used on its own

For some people, PEMF is most useful as a standalone therapy, particularly where the goal is more targeted musculoskeletal support, physical recovery, regulation or a systemic reset.

Used as part of a wider approach

Others combine it with therapies such as Red Light Therapy or HBOT, either by alternating sessions, layering support over time, or choosing a more structured option such as the Superhuman Protocol.

If you are unsure how PEMF might fit into a wider plan, we can help guide the most suitable approach for your goals.

PEMF Therapy FAQs

If you are new to PEMF Therapy, these questions cover some of the most common things people want to understand before booking.

PEMF is very goal-dependent. Some people use it more regularly for a period when pain, strain or irritation are more active, then taper off once things feel more settled. Others come back more intuitively when symptoms return or their body tells them it is needed again. Many clients come anywhere between once every two weeks and once a week. If you are unsure, we can help you work out what makes the most sense.

The 20-minute format is generally better suited to more localised support, particularly where one or two specific areas are the focus, such as hands, joints or particular muscle groups. The 40-minute format is designed as a broader full-body session, with added flexibility to include more focused support where needed.

For more local treatments, we use smaller applicators, including paddle-style applicators, to create a narrower and more focused magnetic field over the area being treated. That allows PEMF to be directed more precisely toward joints, muscles, bones, or other local areas, while broader sessions are used when a wider systemic effect is preferred.

PEMF is clinically and practically explored across a wider range of musculoskeletal and recovery-related conditions, including osteoarthritis, fracture-healing and bone-healing scenarios, low bone mineral density or osteoporosis, shoulder impingement, plantar fasciitis, chronic pain, and some neuropathic pain presentations such as fibromyalgia.

At a more technical level, PEMF uses time-varying magnetic fields that influence the electrical environment around cells and tissues, including membrane potential and signalling. That helps explain why it is used across pain, recovery, and bone-health settings. It is also a field with a strong aerospace connection: NASA researchers developed and patented specific time-varying electromagnetic field technologies and later highlighted cartilage and bone applications through their technology-transfer work.
